Being The iPad handheld device is powered by a Apple’s own custom new 1.0 Ghz Apple A4 processor and it featues built-in Wi-Fi 802.11/N and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR wireless connection,in addition to usual Apple applications including iTunes App Store, eMail, Calendar and Apple Safari browser.

iPod comes equipped with Hi-resolution LED backlit IPS multi-touch 4:3 aspect ratio display that measures 9.7-inch while the whole tablet PC is just 1.3-cm thick and weighs about 600 grams.

Apple iPad uses a unique display technology viz. IPS (in-plane switching) allowing a wide, 178° viewing angle, making it very easy to use it any directions and handle it anyway you want.

The iPad would be available with 16GB, 32GB or 64GB Flash storage in both a Wi-Fi and a 3G/Wi-Fi models.  That the Wi-Fi iPads costing $499, $599 and $699 for 16GB, 32GB and 64GB  respectively, the 3G enabled iPad device will retail for additional US $130 each.

The Battery life of Apple ipad is being quoted to be in excess of 10 hours while the lithium polymer battery used in the device is same as in Apple notebook PCs and like the Apple iPhone, the iPad is equipped with accelerometer for screen rotation etc, built-in compass, integrated speakers, built-in mic, and a device compatible dock connector.

Though iPad doesn’t have a phone function, or a camera, or forward-facing webcam for video calls, Apple has already announced a digital camera kit, a $30 pair of adapters which will let users either plug the camera in direct or plug in an SD card to pull off the photos.

It appears that iPad also lacks multi-tasking ability and like iPhone, it wouldn’t allow to run applications in background. There is also no support for flash, no memory card slot, no HDMI port, and not even a industry standard USB port.

Apple has already made available 140,000 apps for iPad tablet ranging from games to business apps.

Apple also announced at the same event, launch of its iBookStore, where eBooks for use with the iPad and news that iPhone app developers will be creating would be available.

It looks like Apple’s iBookstore store will only be available in the US, and it wont take until later this year for it to expand to UK, Europe and rest of the world.
