Motorola has announced the launched in South Korea of its next generation QUENCH smartphone (aks Cliq XT) powered by Android 1.6 operating system that seems to showcase some of the features of its already very successful Motorola Droid and Google’ new Nexus One smartphones.

The 8th Smartphone from Motorola, the QUENCH Smartphone (also known as Cliq XT) was announced at Mobile Phone Congress in Barcelona, Spain and it offers a full virtual QWERTY keyboard and sports a rounded square navigational touchpad on the front.

Android powered Motorola QUENCH smartphone offers Motorola’s full touch screen user interface and a capacitive touch sensor display technology making it easy for users to access general and social networking websites, as well as video, games and photos. The handset also offers an array of user applications that will be powered by SK Telecom. in Korea.

Google Android is widely recognized as the most exciting mobile platform in part because of its unequalled open source nature. Anyone can develop Android applications and make them available through Android Market, and can download them on QUENCH smartphone.

The Motorola Quench sports a regular 3.7-inch in size, high-definition (HD) WVGA 320 x 480 pixels wide full touchscreen display, with Accelerometer, Proximity sensor, Touchpad and MOTOBLUR UI with Live Widgets making it easier than ever to view full page websites, videos, games, or photos. The display uses Motorola’s touch user interface and a capacitive touch sensor technology delivering ultra smooth screen flipping and scrolling. In addition, five main displays let users customize QUENCH phone homescreen with various widgets with more freedom than ever before.

The QUENCH handset is also offers Wi-Fi support and comes bundled with Android Web Kit Browser that supports up to eight simultaneously open browser windows giving more freedom in using Google’s various mobile services, including:  Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, and Google Talk etc.

The phone also features Motorola’s own Motoblur content delivery service, which syncs messages, contacts and photos from e-mail inbox, and social networking accounts including Facebook, MySpace and Twitter,  into easy-to-manage streams right on the home page of the phone.

The device also includes five text-input methods, including a 3X4 keypad, full QWERTY, half QWERTY, hand writing and writing pad along with a new messaging feature called Swype for text entry and users can synchronize and manage multiple email accounts simultaneously.

Motorola QUENCH Smartphone offering an 5.0 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash. The smart image capture allows easy panorama, face detection, multi-shot (6 shots in a row), face filter, red eye reduction, camera shake prevention and many more elements designed to improve the quality and variety of your photos. In addition the Motoroi phone also features optical character recognition technology that lets the phone read business cards, recognize business card reader and stores the information in the phone memory.

Some other features of QUENCH Smartphone includes 3G, WiFi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth with A2DP, GPS with A-GPS support, Voice activated search, 3.5mm headphone socket and microSD card slot supporting upto 32-GB card and HDMI port to play HD video from phone directly to a HDTV. Besides, the QUENCH comes with support for Adobe Flash Lite allowing users richer experience with Flash enabled sites like YouTube.

Android powered Motorola Cliq XT / QUENCH Smartphone is expected to be available in March 2010 on T-Mobile followed by worldwide release in April 2010.
