Lenovo today announced the super-compact Lenovo ThinkStation C20 and C20x Workstation Desktop PCs which are aimed at the financial trading industry, where lots of processing power is needed in a minimal amount of space.

ThinkStation C20 redefining expectations for a small dual socket workstation. Meanwhile, the ThinkStation C20x offers an extra boost of memory and more powerful processors, making it the highest performance workstation of this form factor.

The Lenovo ThinkStation C20 and C20x which is a rack mounted workstation are powered by dual-processors and offers professional features like ISV certified drivers, ECC RAM and a tool-less chassis. The system also include massive RAM storage with 6 DIMM slots in the C20 and a mind-boggling 12 DIMM slots in the rack mounted C20x, in total delivering upto 48-GB RAM in the C20 and 96-GB in the C20x workstation.

Lenovo designed the ThinkStation C20 and C20x workstations with the ultra-compact, number-crunching performance needed to drive financial markets.

With space at a premium at standard traders’ desks, the C20′s small size — it’s 46% smaller than the Dell Precision T5500 and 31 percent smaller than the HP Z600 workstation, without compromising on performance.

Its size allows for more ThinkStation workstations to be installed in a rack or trader desk versus the competition. An analyst can also attach and run up to eight monitors.

Lenovo engineered many industry “firsts” to package high performance into such a compact design. New Lenovo-developed technologies include a patented slim, rotatable optical drive and a tri-channel cooling system.

The Lenovo C20 and C20x workstations offer:

Choices of Intel Xeon 5600 Series processors

Up to 96GB of DDR3 memory on the C20x with 12 available DIMM slots

Up to two NVIDIA FX4800 class graphics

Native SAS support on the C20x

Certified for compatibility with SBFI Trading and Control Room Furniture

According to Andrew Plumbly, International Business Director, SBFI, Ltd, that the smaller size and reduced heat output of the ThinkStation C20 and C20x workstations will provide greater flexibility for users who have high processing requirements and are a great match for our products which will enable users to do more with the space they have.

Pricing and Availability
The ThinkStation C20 and C20x workstations will be available in mid-June with models of the C20 on the web starting at approximately $1,199 through business partners.

The ability to convert commercially available 2D DVDs into 3D

The 3D videos available on YouTube and other Internet sites need to be compatible with the circular polarization technology employed in this product to be viewable and Fujitsu does not guarantee that all 3D videos on the Internet can be viewed in 3D.

Commercially available 2D DVD movies conversion to 3D is not available for Blu-ray Disc movies.

FH550/3AM: All-in-one entertainment desktop PC model with full 3D functionality

Expected to commence shipment for the Japanese market will begin June 17, 2010, the The FH550/3AM, an all-in-one PC featuring a 20″ widescreen LCD, is the world’s first model to be integrated with three types of 3D functions viz. 3D contents viewing, conversion from 2D to 3D, and 3D contents creation.

Two built-in web cameras enable the recording of original 3D videos with sound, as well as taking 3D photographs. With this function, users can send 3D video letters, bringing to life messages, to friends and family.

The computer employs circular polarization technology for 3D video display, enabling a flicker-free, easy-to-see 3D viewing environment. In addition, the PC includes a variety of 3D contents and games, allowing users to enjoy the world of 3D immediately after purchasing.

Google has announced at Computex 2010 that its upcoming Chrome OS for personal computers also known as Chrome cloud operating system, is slated for a Q4 2010 release, as it aims a competitive strike at rival Microsoft’s well established Windows OS for PC.

Google is seeking to challenge the predominance of Microsoft’s Windows operating system, which currently runs on more than 90 percent of all personal computers worldwide but considered by security experts as more vulnerable for threats from virus and hacking threats due to its inherent buggy code structure.

Google claims that providing open source platforms will allow the market to make the best determination about what operating system will work best in the mass market.

The initial release of Chrome system has been designed to work on laptop PCs, Sundar Pichai, Google’s head of the Chrome project told reporters at the Computex PC show.

Chrome OS for personal computers is believed to leverage web apps, HTML5’s offline modes, background processing, and notifications, company claims.

Google also indicated that the Chrome Web Store will also open at the same time (around Q3 this year) to enable users download Web applications that can be installed on the Chrome OS for personal computers.

Interestingly, only Acer was recently rumoured to be amongst Google’s first manufacturing partners for Chrome OS – a rumour that the laptop maker was quick to scotch. Google said ‘but we expect to hear more announcements on that front very soon’.

“Chrome OS for PC is one of the few future operating systems for which there are already millions of applications that work,” Pichai said. “You don’t need to redesign Gmail for it to work on Chrome. Facebook does not need to write a new app for Chrome.”

The Chrome operating system will be centred around the web browser, with all software including high-end applications such as those used in photo and video editing housed in external servers known as a cloud.
