In addition, the HP Z210 Workstations have access to the HP Carbon Footprint Calculator, which allows users to see how they can reduce their environmental impact and costs of computing. Both models also include HP Power Assistant, which provides real-time battery capacity and power consumption information that helps users conserve power.

All HP workstations are more than 90 percent recyclable and the HP Z line is registered as Electronics Products Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT™) Gold, the highest rating available.

The HP Workstation advantage

HP’s industry-leading independent software vendor program ensures comprehensive workstation testing, tuning and certification across a very wide variety of applications, including advanced product design, broadcast-quality video editing, building information modeling, 3-D movie animation, geographical information systems and medical imaging.

HP’s highly tuned workstations give customers an experience much like having an engineer in the box with HP Performance Advisor software. This free tool is available with all HP workstations and features an intuitive interface that can help tune the workstation and track system resource utilization.

The HP Performance Advisor will make recommendations to users on which driver they should use. This type of tuning can result in significantly improved performance and system and software stability. To further ensure stability for its customers, HP certifies drivers for commonly used workstations applications from vendors such as Adobe, Autodesk, CATIA, Dassault, PTC, Siemens and SolidWorks.

Users of HP workstations enjoy additional benefits of HP’s rigorous systems testing and engineering:

Each HP workstation passes through HP’s legendary quality assurance and testing process, which goes well beyond regulatory and industry standards. As an example, HP’s rigorous three-axis temperature/frequency/voltage testing helps allow for reliable long-term operation for critical components.

As a result of HP’s acoustics engineering, many customers report they cannot tell by listening if the workstation is even running.

Pricing and availability

The new HP Z210 Workstations are expected to be available this spring. U.S. pricing starts at $659 for the HP Z210 CMT Workstation and $569 for the HP Z210 SFF Workstation.

Elpida Memory, Inc., Japan’s leading global supplier of Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM), today announced that it has developed a 4-gigabit DDR2 Mobile RAM that employs state-of-the-art 30nm process.

This new Mobile RAM features a low operating voltage of 1.2V, achieves a 1066Mbps high-speed data transfer rate, and uses roughly 30% less operating current compared with stacking two of Elpida’s 40nm 2-gigabit products.

Through sophisticated circuit design and advanced process technology, this product achieves the world’s smallest class in chip size for a 4-gigabit LPDDR2.

In addition, it is an eco-friendly DRAM equipped with a low power feature that targets mobile devices such as smart phones and tablet PCs by contributing to extended operating times of battery-powered devices.

Currently, the rapidly expanding market for smart phones and tablet PCs is striving to expand the features of its operating systems. As a result, the ideal density of DRAMs is also rapidly on the rise, and there is an increasing need for high density DRAMs – 8-gigabit for high-end smart phones and 16-gigabit for high-end tablet PCs.

At the same time, there is a strong demand for smaller, thinner, and lighter DRAM packages, and attention is being focused on advanced package technologies such as Package on Package (PoP) and Multi Chip Package (MCP).

Elpida plans to ship the new DDR2 Mobile RAM as PoP, FBGA packages, and as a bare chip for MCPs. The company’s PoP and FBGA packages fully leverage die-stacking technology to provide an extensive line-up of 8-gigabit to 16-gigabit products that can meet a variety of customer needs.

The new 4-gigabit DDR2 Mobile RAM achieves the thinnest package yet at 0.8mm (in the case of an 8-gigabit product consisting of two stacked 4-gigabit chips), which meets the need for DRAM that is not only higher density, but also thinner packages.

Sample shipments of the new 4-gigabit DDR2 Mobile RAM will begin in April, and mass production is scheduled to start at Elpida’s Hiroshima Plant in June of this year. Production is also planned at Rexchip Electronics Corporation in order to guarantee a stable product supply.

Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC) today announced that it has enhanced its NAND flash portfolio with the introduction of SmartNAND™, its next-generation 24-nanometer (nm) NAND flash product family. The SmartNAND series integrates leading-edge 24nm process NAND flash technology with a control chip that supports error correction code (ECC) and is available in densities ranging from 4 to 64 gigabyte (GB).

The new series is expressly designed to remove the burden of ECC from the host processor, while minimizing protocol changes. SmartNAND simplifies the host-side design and application of advanced NAND technology in a range of applications including portable media players, tablet PCs, digital TVs, set-top-boxes, and other devices that require high-density, non-volatile memory.

Market demand continues to grow for high density chips that support high resolution video and enhanced storage, and Toshiba is an established innovator in this key area. The introduction of SmartNAND reinforces its leadership position.

“Toshiba’s new SmartNAND will provide our customers a smoother design experience into 24nm generation and beyond,” noted Scott Nelson, vice president, Memory Business Unit, Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. “By enabling the system designer to directly manage the NAND using a standard or custom host NAND controller, while leaving the function of error correction within the NAND package, SmartNAND results in faster time to market, access to leading geometries and potentially lowers design costs when compared to conventional NAND flash implementations with external ECC.”

The new SmartNAND 24nm product lineup is a replacement for current 32nm generation devices. Its advanced process combined with a faster controller and internal interface achieves faster read and write speeds and enhances overall performance. Optimized to suit design objectives, SmartNAND supports a range of read and write speeds including four read modes and two write modes.

Utilizing the long established raw NAND interface, the SmartNAND family includes new features that are optimized for high-capacity and high-performance applications. Managing bit errors is essential so that digital products can maintain acceptable levels of performance and reliability.

The integration of error management with the NAND device, in a single package, allows Toshiba’s customers to take advantage of high capacity, advanced flash memory solutions that offer excellent error management.

Samples of the new SmartNAND family are available in mid-April and mass production will begin in the second quarter of CY2011 (April to June).

Key Features

The integrated error correction (ECC) and leading edge 24nm process generation allows for enhanced speed performance of 1.9 times faster read speed and 1.5 times faster write speed than the current lineup.

Toshiba’s SmartNAND offers a range of read and write speeds to vary optimized speed performance; the read speed will be available in four options, and the write speed in two. Power save mode is also available for lower power requests.

Toshiba’s SmartNAND utilizes a standard raw NAND interface, allowing easy replacement of standard NAND. SmartNAND can be applied to existing host controllers with driver software support, if necessary. This simplifies system development, allowing manufacturers to minimize development costs and to improve time to market for new and upgraded products.

GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY Co., Ltd, a leading manufacturer of motherboards, graphics cards and other computing hardware solutions, today unveiled several exciting new technologies during a COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2011 pre-show press conference held at the GIGABYTE head office.

The new technologies feature on upcoming GIGABYTE 6 series motherboards (based on Intel® 6 series chipsets) with the purpose of providing Maximum CPU Power for reliable high-performance computing.

Tim Handley, Deputy Director of Motherboard Marketing at GIGABYTE, explained their innovate and disseminate strategy where new innovations are launched on extreme enthusiast models, such as the X58A-UD9 that debuted at Computex 2010, and then make their way down to the high-end and mainstream models.

Demonstrating GIGABYTE’s soon-to-be-released flagship motherboard, the GA-P67A-UD7, he highlighted GIGABYTE’s Maximum CPU Power technology with an industry-leading 24 phase power design, an Intel® approved Intersil Voltage Regulator Down (VRD) 12 compliant PWM controller, Dual CPU Power, Driver MOSFETs (the new addition to GIGABYTE’s signature Ultra Durable 3 features), proprietary DualBIOS™ 3TB+ HDD technology,10 USB 3.0 ports (total of 18 USB ports with 8 USB 2.0), 3-Way SLI/CrossFireX support, 3x USB Power, On/Off Charge and more.

“The amount and quality of power is the key to CPU performance, as we demonstrated earlier this year with the industry-leading CPU power design on the X58A-UD9 motherboard that is capable of delivering up to 1500Watts,” commented Tim Handley.

“CPU power design improvements on the 6 series motherboards include the Intel® VRD 12 approved Intersil PWM controller chip, as well as high quality Driver MOSFETs that ensure better efficiency with first class system performance and stability.”

New VRD 12 (Voltage Regulator Down) Specification Design

GIGABYTE 6 series motherboards are designed with Intel’s latest Voltage Regulator Down specification (VRD 12) using the Intel® qualified Intersil PWM controller that offers SerialVID (SVID) for transfering power management information between the processor and voltage regulator controller. This allows more robust and efficient signaling control between the CPU and PWM controller, hence delivering a more energy efficient platform.

Maximum CPU Power Delivery

GIGABYTE 6 series motherboards with their unique CPU power design, promise to deliver first class system performance and stability. With up to 24 phase power, Dual CPU Power and Power Phase Boost with Multi-gear Switching, the world’s leading motherboard CPU power technology will soon be available on performance and even mainstream motherboard models instead of only being available on extreme models, as it was been in the past.

Dual CPU Power

GIGABYTE’s proprietary Dual CPU Power technology allows CPU VRM power phases to split evenly into 2 sets of power engines that operate in tandem. This allows 1 set of power phases to rest while the other is active as opposed to a traditional power design where all the power phases are always active. So GIGABYTE Dual CPU Power effectively halves the amount of work done by each set of power phases to significantly increase motherboard durability and reliability.

Driver MOSFETs

By incorporating the MOSFETs and driver IC in accordance with the Intel® Driver-MOSFET specification, GIGABYTE 6 series motherboards allow higher power transfer and increased efficiency at higher switching frequencies to satisfy the power requirements of modern processors. Driver-MOSFETs also help to reduce VRM real estate requirements for a cleaner, less cluttered CPU zone.

GIGABYTE DualBIOS™ with 3TB+ HDD Support

GIGABYTE DualBIOS™ is a patented technology that automatically recovers BIOS data when the main BIOS has crashed or failed. Featuring 2 physical BIOS ROMs integrated onboard, GIGABYTE DualBIOS™ allows quick and seamless recovery from BIOS damage or failure due to viruses or improper BIOS updating.

In addition, GIGABYTE DualBIOS™ now supports booting from hard drives that are 3TB (terabytes) or more without the need for partitioning, and effectively provides future-proofing for higher volume single drive data storage.

Keep an eye on the GIGABYTE Tech Daily blog and the official GIGABYTE motherboard website for more information and announcements about upcoming GIGABYTE 6 series of motherboards.
